Last Monday Bill was out watering our corn and grass when we had a visit from the landlord. We had been expecting this visit for some time. Our landlord's son is moving back and wants our apartment. We never resigned another contract (for fear they would raise our rent). So were out. They have been good to us and saved the apartment upstairs for us. What we weren't expecting is they also have gotten the paperwork needed to build on the land behind us. And they were going to start Saturday! We mourned and quickly called up the nursery owner who planted the grass. We were hoping to move the grass over, Bill even researched how to plant grass on the roof. But to no avail. Friday night we quickly found a neighbor who wanted our beloved grass. Saturday 8am they arrived. First tearing up all the growth we had over the last year the hacking into sections. The builder arrived and offered his mini bulldozer. The gardner convinced the builder to save a tree. Our friends arrived and gathered up some pieces to plant around their house and pulled up the broccoli. We gathered up the first and last zucchini. After a while I couldn't watch anymore. It felt just as if we were giving up our dog or cat. Our pet grass went to a good home, they have 3 kids and plenty of water, they invited me to come visit. THe worst came when the bulldozer began to clear for the outline of the new building. They flattened the corn! I couldn't stand it and hurried through lunch to get out as quickly as possible. So in the next few weeks we will prepair the new apartment and move upstairs. I am still sad!
